One day shopping downtown (Oakland) I spotted an original 1937 Ford 5 window coupe, mud brown, with the 85HP badge on the grille, in front of the Safeway store. I was getting ready to leave a note on the car when an 85 year old woman came out and unlocked the passenger door and loaded some items behind the seat. No, the car was not for sale. Yes, she and her late husband had bought it new right here in Oakland in 1937. She still had an old, semi-retired mechanic who kept it running. The car was battle scarred, but not dented or abused. But it was her ONLY car, and had been in service for 51 years straight at that time. As she drove off, I could hear her shift the gears expertly. That car would have been a gem. Hard to believe that the old GTO's I've had for over 40 years now have been in service LONGER than that '37 at the time. 58 and 56 years, always tagged, always running. I guess now I'M the old goat.

I"m an old goat lover myself, most of my cars have been Pontiacs through the decades.....and Dodge 6 door vans......and only 3 vettes.....
