Gene, one of the best all around things for your back is to get on a lightly padded surface or even out in the grass and lay down and then get back up. Do that for 10 minutes a day. It doesn't sound like much but you'd be amazed at how that helps your back and legs. Do it methodically at first so you don't hurt yourself if that sounds challenging. Vary it each time you get up to a standing position, like do it without rolling onto your side or stomach sometimes, you get the idea. Do a few pushups while you are down there.
