Calling a fag, a fag, is not ok. Calling your buddy a fag, different story...unless he actually is, then that's between you two.
As for the sitting down and talking to your kids, that's not overly sensitive. They shouldn't mock the handicapped. At the same time, mocking someone NOT handicapped in an imitation of a handicap, should not be that big a deal.
Example, Trump made a bad choice in his physical manner of imitating the handicapped dude. HOWEVER, if he used that same body language to mock Anderson Cooper, or Madcow, or his "enemy du jour", I would have found it acceptable, and most likely entertaining.
Maybe I am under-sensitive.
