The vaccines are mostly effective, but not 100%, meaning, you might have been vaccinated back in the day for something and you might still get it. There's a newer shingles vaccine out there that is purporting to be 90 or so percent effective. So you get it, you're better off than if you didn't but you're not bullet proof.
