Every one has their story. Each one of us remembers when we heard, when we saw, and what we felt. I remember having a very hard time explaining to my son what happened, and why I was leaving. We deployed a week after that, we stayed at sea for longer than any deployment since WWII. That 1st night I spent 20 hrs straight on the flight deck. barely had time to piss. Everyday we launched combat missions and everyday we were exhausted. We never went to port and we didn't want to. All we wanted to do was rain hell on those people everyday and everynight. I saw the flag that the firefighters found and raised at ground zero flying above our ship. It made me proud! They brought it to us so it could fly over the Roosevelt as we sought retribution for our fallen.
We flew this flag every time we were at combat ops.
