i like a challenge. it wasn't a big cut, so the set up time for the router likely would have been just as long as cutting by hand. and i could better control/limit any burning or tearout.
getting a straight edge set up (3" offset) and everything clamped securely appeared to be more work than was warranted, with a large chance of failure.
and it gave me some quiet time in my shop.
