Journal entry by Brad Johnson — 4 hours ago

With heavy hearts, we saw the passing of Bud last night. The prayer vigil was held at 7:30pm in his ICU room with family. We made his room as comfortable as possible with many things from home. We attached the pictures to share. In addition, our friends and extended family were praying everywhere. A prayer vigil was held in his condiminum by many of his neighbors. People in Washington DC, Atlanta and other places were praying as well. We lifted him up to the Lord.

As they escorted him down to the OR, the staff of the hospital lined the hallway. It was a great gesture and gave us a chance to thank the entire medical staff (and other staff members) for their efforts and their compassion. It was amazing to see how many of them were touched deeply and cried with us.

As Kenny said previously, Bud passed away peacefully at 9:06pm. He was never alone as we were there in spirit until the end. His organs have gone to a good cause and is helping at least 2 others to live.

Bud’s wishes were to be cremated so we are working with Diane on a Memorial Service/Celebration of Life later so people can make plans to attend. We don’t have a date or location yet but will let all know when we do.

As we get updates on the investigation, we will let all know. We will send out something today on where we currently stand. We will leave out anything graphic in respect to Bud and family.

Many have asked how they can support and help the family. We will be setting up a calendar today through this site so people can coordinate bringing food or help for Diane and Bo. When up and running, we will send out an update with the details.

Several have asked if they could donate money for different reasons to help with cost, Bo’s college, etc. That is a generous offer and we will set up a GoFundMe page as part of CaringBridge. Again, more information will come out later.

This has been a terrible event. We will miss Bud greatly. We do already. The miracle we wanted was for Bud to somehow come back to us in some way. The miracle we needed was for him to come back to life long enough for family, friends and loved ones to come together and be there for each other. We are thankful for that.

The Family
