I was in the first dorm set up for me that year, in the trailers/temp housing left over from Korean war, we called them the 'tin cans'.....behind frat row loop off US1 in College Park Md, just north of DC.....
so we watched Mel's little B&W TV, like a 14" screen B&W of course.....just a rabbit ears antenna and of course there were no cphones, just land lines and too boot a group of maybe 4 payphones to call out local on, and the lines were around the block, so not to bother standing in line for hours.....I remember my Father asking why I didn't call home as classes were cancelled....and I told him,
I grew older just about 1/2 mile from the Navy Medical tower/campus where they took Kennedy for processing......had been through the place maybe 3X in all them years there....
