I put maybe 500 rounds through it total so I'd be surprised if the barrel is worn. I think it's just a very short barrel and kicks like a mofo. Plus, it never seemed very "tight" to me in terms of slide fit and tolerances.
I'm glad you have made progress. I hope you can shoot someone in the face with it but never have to.
