That advice is quite laughable. If somebody is trying to invade your home, they ain't doing it with good intentions for you. It would be silly to try and analyze it as anything different. Even if you have time to think and dial 911 the first thing one should do before that is make sure their gun is in their hand and ready to fire. Invaders are not known to be polite and wait for you to finish your phone call to 911.
Speaking to your point of every situation is different, with home invasion how different could it be. The invader is either planning to harm you or take your shit. There really aren't any other plausible intentions.
