I didn't think it would be that pricey to get a camera in a rig like that. What would it be a few grand? I have no idea but with ever changing tech it seems like it should be affordable, no?

That's a bullet cam on a vintage car. Only for replay. FPV, if you decided to do it, would require both camera and headset.
FPV works because you have spatial sense as first person to do the job. Drones, planes, really slow cars maybe. I would say the same as flying 3D with FPV. Impossible to do at any level above tame.
When racing RC, your peripheral vision is at least as important as your focus. You see stuff turns ahead of where you are while still driving. So third person is best.
A 1/10th at speed is running 400-500mph scale. 200mph through hairpins. Nobody but a top F1 driver has a chance at one of these FPV.
