being from hawaii, i can only assume it was named after princess ka'uilani....
coulda been worse--
kalanianaole (a highway)
liliokaulani ( the queen )
kaanapali ( near lahaina on maui )
kaaawa ( on the north shore of oahu )
maunawili (at the bottom of the pali )
humuhumunukunukuapua'a ( state fish...seriously!) .....etc.....
actually, for those saying "WTF" !!! hawaiian is relatively easy--there are NO silent
sounds, you pronounce everything exactly as it looks with one caveat-- all the
vowels are soft, EXCEPT the "O". so "A" isnt pronounced like the "A" in "PLAY",
its pronounced like the "A" in the word "FART".
therefore, phonetically speaking "kalanianaole" is simply pronounced like this-
" CAW-LAW-NEE-AH-NAH-OH-LAY".
and "humuhumunukunukuapua'a" is pronounced --
"WHO-MOO-WHO-MOO-NEW-COO-NEW-COO-AH-POO-AH-AH".
i promise im not messing around with you, this is for real.
see? not that hard once you figure it out.
and finally my vote for the new name is
lizard blizzard.
