The thing is, in the age of women lying about assault all over the place, Kavanaugh, Duke Lacrosse, etc., I no longer take these stories at face value and automatically believe the woman. The legislator may well have smacked her up. Lots of other things could have happened instead.
Maybe he caught the wife with her lesbian lover, and the two concocted this story as ammo for an upcoming divorce? We just don't know all the facts.
I just point out that being drunk doesn't help his case.
