Sadly, that's the cycle we're in and I don't see it changing for a very long time.

I recognize that I cannot be objective and would therefore not insert myself into a situation where I needed to be. Cheney should have/could have, made a real HUGE career move and said "As much as I'd like to head this committee, my opinions about Donald Trump will not allow me to be objective in the position and I must therefore decline the offer".
I never get picked for jury duty either.
