A thicker mesh would solve your issue.
With this, just staple it, trim it., and you're done.
A thinner gauge mesh would need a "stretcher jig" made in order for it to be stretched tight enough to staple. Even then you'd have to staple it on an angle at the corner of each square, so as not to let the thing have any give.
