You'll get sick a week later than you would have without a mask? It doesn't stop the spread and that point has 100% agreement at every source you'll find. So the new rationale is that it "slows the spread". That statement actually makes ZERO sense.
This struck me today as I was putting the face diaper on for the 50th time. "Slow the spread" sounds like nothing more than a delay in the inevitable to me.
