30+ years ago a Ford Escort came in for a timing belt replacement at 60K miles (which was the recommended interval) I recommended a new water pump at that time since the timing belt drove the pump and the pumps were known to seize and strip the belt, which would lead to all the valves bending and damaging the head. Customer said 'I just came in for the belt!". Three weeks later, car came back in on a hook. Water pump had failed, stripped the belt, and the engine was toast. You can lead a horse to water.....
