I suspect IB is driving it behind the scenes, just like getting rid of the C in PR&C, having lots more Mods and making sure there is "diversity" among Mods, and other such crap going on. My money says IB was behind the move to neuter the bar threads, which they succeeded in doing.
Next step will be getting rid of politics discussions completely.
