What I'm afraid of is we'll wind up with Contract for America II where the Republicans are given a mandate to reduce government and cut spending and instead jerk around and get nothing accomplished and then get deservedly tossed out on their ass.
The same thing is happening to Obama and the Dems this time - They had a two year majority and a mandate from the majority of voters to change things - end the wars and bring the troops home even if it meant "losing". Put gays in the military, boost the EPA, socialize everything from Medicine to insurance to education. It was all there on the table and they had the votes to do it all.
Instead they squandered time and political capital on reworking healthcare and lionizing Ted Kennedy. The economy tanked and time ran out on the "It's Bush's fault" excuse.
However few learn from the mistakes...
