It's one thing to charge EV owners extra at registration time to make up for all the gasoline taxes they won't be paying; it's quite another to demand 4 years' worth of registration fees up front. The latter is clearly designed to dissuade people from buying EVs.  |
EV's not paying for road taxes is a valid concern and I do support a fee/tax on EV's to make up for the lost gas taxes. It's only fair. Of course, it has to be a reasonable amount, comparable what the average car owner pays in gas taxes per year.
