The tree that grew the wood, got the carbon that burns in the fireplace from the CO2 in the atmosphere. So when a politician burns it, he or she is only returning the CO2 to the atmosphere from whence it came, and therefore, is not adding to climate change.

When a peasant is burning natural gas or oil products (like gasoline), the carbon in those things also came from the CO2 in the atmosphere, so he or she is an environmental criminal, and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
