So the 10mm and 5.7 being the high end of cost per trigger pull and on the lower end of ammo availability relegate them to safe queen status.

Answer... reload. Assuming I have brass, I can load 1000 /.45ACP 200gr plated rounds for less than $200.00 even today. 9mm comes in even less. Want defensive ammo? I just finished 100 rounds of 9mm +P 115gr Gold Dot ammo for $40.00 or so. Go get some dies, research projos and load data and do it. It is quite rewarding to produce your own ammunition, and can save huge bucks for a modest investment in dollars and time.
