one practical thing to make sure you have done: make sure your wonderful wife knows about your finances. where the accounts are, how much should be in them, life insurance policies, retirement plans, etc.
when my dad was nearing his end, he and I (as executor) sat down and he listed out (i took very careful notes) all his accounts, so i'd know where to find things and claim benefits he was due (by this time, my mom had passed away, so i was next in line). helped close out his estate quickly.
for a married couple (such as myself before my wife Linda passed away last year), it's much simpler, but still good to know what's what.
