I didn't make a career out of it. But, started when I was very young keeping my old motorcycles running on very little parts sources and money. Then went into the hobby of restoring cars. Paint, body, and basic mechanical things. I tinker and restore old motorcycles now and for the last few yrs. Cars/trucks are just too big of a job for a one man show now.

I follow one professional on yt that has a shop. He plugs a scanner into the port and reads the codes. Does some basic electrical test to narrow things down. Pops a new sensor in or fixes bad wiring at $90 hr. They just remove and replace components these days. People don't even rebuild engines or transmissions. Just replace them with something off the shelf.

I remember the days when people would actually rebuild a starter rather than replace it.
