If a company cannot make a 1911 properly, arguably one of the oldest designs for a handgun ever they should pack it in. As to the weight, my original Series 70 Colt Government Model in long slide was a brick - and any other similar 1911 would most likely be as well.

My Ruger SR1911 Commander 9mm weighs 29 oz. I use it as a daily carry. With a good belt and holster can't even tell it is there.
I'll take it over a plastic gun any day. The long slide ( or even a standard length) would be a lot harder to carry.
Top one is the nine. Bottom is it's .45 brother.
