a few years ago, our local fire house hosted a seminar on fire defense around your house (the outside). things like keeping pine trees away from your structure, if possible, making your exterior finish and roof fire resistant or fire proof. rule of thumb was keep pines at least 35 feet from your house, and that way, if they catch, they won't spread to your house.
i have one pine behind the guesthouse that is too close, otherwise, we're good.
