What's the tipping protocol in this situation? When we've had such things delivered we've tipped the delivery guy, but is it expected, or even appropriate, when we're picking up?

There are no servers involved in the pickup; the owner rings us up, we pay him, & carry out our food. Seems odd to tip the owner, but it's my understanding that tips get shared with the kitchen staff, who likely prepared our order.
In that situation, I generally do not tip. The owner should have his pricing set up so that he can pay his people a competitive wage, and make enough profit for himself to make a decent living. Kitchen workers don't generally make the bulk of their living from tips the wait wait staff workers do.
