The original story of flattening the curve was to not overwhelm hospitals and force physicians to decide who gets treated and who gets left to die without treatment, and because we didn’t have enough ventilators. We were told the number of people infected would be the same, but flattening the curve would spread them out over time. Once it was clear that hospitals weren’t being overwhelmed and we had way more ventilators than were needed the phrase “flattening the curve” was abandoned in favor of “stop the spread,” which now seems to be morphing into “until there’s a vaccine.” It’s that ever-changing goalpost moving that bothers me the most.
Here in FL the number of cases is increasing but the number of deaths is decreasing. Isn’t that a good thing if you want to develop herd immunity?
