It was ridiculous. If they have them, they have had them for years. These emails are from 2009-2012. The server that contained them is in some storage room at FBI headquarters, the hard drive removed, and it hasn't been powered on in years. So exactly how is that encouraging Russia to hack government servers? The mere idea that the MSM thought they could even make it into an issue of Trump doing so tells you all you need to know about what they think about American voters.
