The guy I bought the car from removed the changer before he sold it. I don't see why you couldn't leave the changer in there.

I used the iPod2Car by Peripheral Electronics...

I used the iPod2Car by Peripheral Electronics model PDXP. It uses different harnesses to connect to either the back of your factory head unit or in my case to the cable for the CD changer in the back...

I have a C5 and am fishing for ideas on how to mount my iPod Touch so i can see it yet it's not in the way of anything and wont go flying if I accidentally hit the accelerator to hard or some fun...
