I have found that using a good camera ALLOWS you to be creative and spontainous. There is no "shutter lag" with good equipment and the focus is 99.9% on target every time. I will say that I have seen some GREAT captures with cheaper equipment that look great UNTIL you blow them up and find that the clarity and sharpness is terriable. Just my $.02:)

I DO believe that the EYE behind the camera IS what makes the camera GREAT.

All my shots in the past year (since my DSLR got stolen) have been off a cheap cannon powershot. While most pics don't come out great, with some finese you can get some good ones. All my AV's have been from it.

Takes some patience and good lighting though.

I agree, a really good camera makes it easier to get the technical part right. Focus, exposure, etc. I think a great lens makes more difference in the technical aspects than the camera though.

But having the picture in your head before you take the shot is what makes a great photo regardless of the equipment. I'm decent at getting the technical part down but I sure wish I was better at imagining what the shot should be before looking through the veiwfinder. I have little skill there.

.....and those that think the camera gives you talent, are the ones who buy a DSLR and in less than a week become 'professional' photographers, booking 'sessions'. :issues:

I'll admit - I shoot better with my camera than with my iPhone, but it's not all in the camera - it's perspective, angles, lighting and creativity. :D
