Nice 84's are pulling big numbers

This one surprised me a bit.....but it's a damn nice car.....

1984 Corvette

This car reminds me of seeing them when they were new and all the buzz that surrounded the "new" Corvette back then.

That looks in great shape. The C4 CFI was the best-of-the-best for 18 months. They are one of a kind of Vette history and one fully restored would make a great garage queen or a Vette competitor on car shows.

I am surprised at the bid price, but I would really be surprised if he gets his reserve price. Hope he does:cert:

It's a nice one for sure. Even though my 84 wasn't near as nice as Friz's, I'll always have a soft spot for them since it was my first vette.

Me too....somewhere down the line another one will follow me home I'm sure.

9K miles is for all practical purposes new. The last new care we bought still had the new car smell at 15K and we didn't drive it that much at all. I'm a little surprised at the bid, but on the other hand museum pieces don't come cheap. And, if someone chose to drive it, well, a new (old) car for that price ain't too bad either.

I dont know about you guys but Ive been quite happy periodicly checking out what my car is "worth" on KBB.com.... Puts a smile on my face. Been gradually going up for the past 8 months that Ive been looking! :D

SQUIRMIN VERMIN 84 11-02-2011 11:10pm

That's a gorgeous car!! Hard to believe only 9k mileage....can't imagine all those years with so little driving!

RedLS1GTO 11-03-2011 7:11pm

It's always pretty cool to see a pristine car like that, but then the engineering part of my brain takes over and I see this...
  • 1984 Coupe sticker price ~ $24,000 with average options
  • That price adjusted for inflation from 1984-2011 = $52,409 (Inflation Calculator: Bureau of Labor Statistics)
  • Final bid price = $10099
  • Value loss = $42,310 (not including 27 years worth of insurance costs, storage, maintenance, etc.)
  • Total miles = 9610

Value loss adjusted for inflation = $4.40 per mile.

You would probably come close to doubling that if you throw in all of the additional costs mentioned above.

Was it worth it?

Not a chance.....not to mention the intrinsic opportunity costs. How many smiles and nice sunny days on open highways in the mid 80's with the top off and Motley Crue blaring out of the Bose were given up to keep that car pristine?

PLRX 11-03-2011 7:51pm

Bryan,

You are correct. Few years ago there was a thread about the value of the late C4 (LT1 92-96). Those things were way overpriced. The C4-ZR1 was the biggest ip -off in Corvette history. Some mentioned that the prices was so high that reached over 100K.

You can buy a low mile used C6-ZR1 today for 100K.

Another car that was never enjoyed. Like a 60 year old man having his first threesome. What a waste of life.
