The big C comes for a visit

I had a cystoscopy procedure performed today because I was occasionally seeing blood in my urine. My doctor found a fairly large cancerous tumor in my bladder so now the race is on to get rid of it. He's confident that it was caught early enough that I should have a full recovery, but I won't know what the treatment plan is until I see him again next Thursday. For now, I have a freaking catheter that will be removed next week. I've had a catheter before and they absolutely suck! One humorous note...the nurse who took care of me post-op said to my wife, "We had to use an extra-long catheter to wrestle the San Antonio white snake!" I thought my wife was going to pee her pants!

As a survivor of prostate cancer (so far), I feel for ya brother. Hang in there, it will get better.

Good luck and follow their instructions to a tee, my old man had that surgery (they called it a bladder scrape to remove one of his tumors) and the first procedure seemed to be successful.

Good luck!

Had a small bladder tumor removed 3 years ago and during start of my 3rd year follow-ups, the doc discovered another tumor at the first of the year. Removed and finished my BCG treatments a few weeks ago. Hang in there, surgeon said bladder cancer has a high rate of reoccurrence.

Get well soon!

Good luck, you've got this. Oh, and please tell us that nurse was a female.

MikeB 05-01-2025 2:48pm

Well, that sucks big time.

Just wondering, how did the Dr determine its cancerous. Just by looks?
Usually, the tissue sample takes a day or so to evaluate.

Hope all goes well for you.
Mr SA Whitesnake

The doctor said the same thing about recurrence. I'll know more next week.

Sorry to hear that, hope everything goes well for you. I had the same scare one week ago today coincidentally, started seeing blood in my urine out of the blue so got rushed in for a scope. Fortunately, it was just due to a benign enlarged prostate, no cancer to be found. Felt like a ton of weight was lifted from my shoulders, I can only guess what you must be thinking.

Good luck, here's hoping for a speedy recovery.

roadpilot 05-01-2025 7:00pm

Good luck

Sorry to hear that Jim - best wishes on a positive outcome!

When I was hospitalized last November for my pulmonary embolism they inserted a catheter in me. That sucked! And a few weeks after they removed it I has a nasty UTI, which involved lots of blood in my urine.

Thanks Steve! I hate the catheter, but I'm really not looking forward to having it removed! I'm taking antibiotics to hopefully prevent a UTI.
