The bridge to an island my parents have leased to protect from development collapsed a while ago. Sometimes it is good to be in the RR business!

There's a few of those in my county being used as bridges on private property. Can't build anything sturdier for the same money.:yesnod:

Excellent! I've "repurposed" a few things in my life, but nothing like that. :seasix:

i read an article long ago that CALTRANS (california DOT) had studied and figured out how to replace damaged bridges, like right after an earthquake, using spare flatbed railroad cars. sometimes as shown, other times using several to form A frames that would support ones that would create the temporary road bed. big version of tinker toys.

That was my first thought. It's definitely an elegant solution. Kind of makes me sad I don't have anywhere to make a bridge.

You'd need a giant backhoe to unload that, so why not just have the backhoe show up early and dig a moat or narrow pond, first, then, bring in the railcar and unload it with that same backhoe?

"oh, hi. that? oh, that. yeah, well, i'm building a railroad, you know, one of my friends, he owns (OWNS!) a railroad, so i thought 'all the cool kids own a railroad, i want to get in on this and be cool too', so being of modest means, i'm just starting with one flatbed car. later, i'll get some track and then a choo-choo!"

Hellz yeah. Great way to repurpose. What all did you have to do to get it in place?:seasix:

I do too. Got two springs on my property. That would span the gully perfectly.

What does one of those things weigh?

Skill takes experience, so it's immeasurable. Hope this helps.
