Got a deal on an old truck

Well, actually, two of 'em.
First, I found a truck I really wanted a month ago. Met the lady, made the deal. She wanted me to wait until the next day (Friday) to pick it up because her new car wouldn't be ready. I said fine, that'll work. Next day she says needs two more days (Monday) and then deliver it for sure. Fine, whatever. I list mine on Saturday. Guy messages me Sat night, wants to see it Sunday. Okay. We meet, agree on a price and he will pick it up the next day. Monday comes, he gets mine, and then...she backs out. Her late husband's truck and she just can't sell. There I was, no truck. It's still sitting in her drive. I have been looking now for a month. Anyone who is in the market for a truck will tell you prices are crazy. I found a 2000 F150 Lariat Supercab step side and hour away that was very clean, 149k miles and loaded. Asking price was 5k. Not a bad price for the truck at all. We talk a few times and I get him down to 4k cash. Even better deal! As were we getting ready to leave for the meet a 2008 F150 XLT Supercab gets listed. Two owner, 4.6 v8, 140k miles. He was asking $6500 but was negotiable. He just received a company car so no longer need the truck. It was twenty minutes from where I was supposed to meet the other guy so I arranged to meet him as well. Get to the first one and it checks out. Owner already bought a '22 F150 so no longer needs or wants this one. I told him I was going to look at another one before I made my mind up. He proceeded to drop the price to $3500. So I bought it. We left in the wife's car and the '00 to meet the other guy with the '08. It was very clean but had a slight miss. Scanner said, "Misfire cylinder 8". Ford 4.6 and 5.4 are notorious for coil issues. I used this as leverage to get him to drop the price to $5300 cash. I bought it, too. Left the "00 at a truck stop in Cartersville, GA, and took the first one home. Went back and got the other one. Misfire on the '08 was due to thermostat housing leaking and fluid running towards the back of the intake into the spark plug well. Replaced the tstat, gasket, and coil and now runs like a beast! I'll drive both for the next couple of weeks and see which one I like better. Likely keep the '08. Newer and less miles. It'll be my work ride. Keeps the miles off the Vette and the Caddie. Ford F series truck is the number one selling vehicle for forty years running, and the number one selling truck for forty-five. Hard to argue with that fact. I was shopping for either an F150 or Silverado. Half of the Silverados had rust. |

I'd be interested in buying the white one. But the red one you can keep. Never did like the "femme truck".

4.6 is a bulletproof engine.
5.4 is a POS timebomb. Absolute crap. Looks like you scored. Congrats. |
