I need a "Dadmobile"

With a little one about a month away I have been looking at the vehicles in the garage. I have everything I "need" but I want a Dadmobile of some sort.

I have the big dually that will easily fit carseats. The wife has a Yukon, check. Even the SS has more than enough room for a car seat.

If anybody has paid attention to my posts over the last year (which I doubt) I have been watching with interest whenever cars come up for sale. I want something new (to me). I've thought continuously about a Z/28 but prices are still up above what I think is a sound investment. (Yes, I know that's not a kid friendly choice)

I've seriously considered another SS, this 1 as a 6 speed, but I just don't know about 2 of the same thing. Seems kind of... vanilla. I like cars that you don't see every day.

The other thing that ALWAYS stays on the list is a V-Wagon. Definitely a 6 speed in that one. Let's face it, it's hard to get much cooler than that as a family car. Who doesn't want a station wagon that's faster than most sports cars?! :willy:

Any other ideas from the minds (I use that term loosely) here at the Barn? New, old,... only requirements are something fun to drive, something that I most likely won't see 2 more of in a parking lot, and enough room for a car seat to EASILY get in and out.

I'm working on finding a Denali to replace my diesel. When I get bored of the Denali i'll either give that to my wife, or put a blower on it. I've looked at the SS, CTS, I honestly would want the new larger, RWD Caddy, and well that's nearly as much as a slightly used Yukon Denali. Maybe consider a Jeep SRT8- if you can deal with their reliability issues. What about an M5 with the V10 and a tubi exhaust?

Will the SS really carry a rear facing car seat and still allow for a passenger in the front seat comfortably?

It seems like back seats keep shrinking, and there's only a few cars that will now take a rear facing seat without reducing the legroom in the front of the car. And even fewer are wide enough to not effect the drivers seat too.

Don't forget door openings and being able to put the carrier into the car without too much hassel.

Those CSTV wagons seemed a bit tough to find, and considering the rear door, putting a baby strapped into their seat into the back may still be a bit of a struggle.

The CTS-V wagon is the only cool Dadmobile. All others are just symbols of your acceptance of automotive castration...

Maybe it's just my age, (54) or maybe it's the fact my automobile taste tends to run towards the traditional but a 500 hp station wagon, or a 500 hp four door makes absolutely no sense to me.

Hell, I just don't like four doors and I know they're wildly popular.

Disclaimer; I never had kids to consider but I do have dogs to haul around. In all reality a minivan would be a better choice for what I do but they hold zero appeal to me, hence the SUV.

What would you buy if SUV's didn't exist and minivans were a symbol of one's loyalty to ISIS?

You drive a 403hp 4 door :confused5:

And yes minivans are wildly practical, but they take chunk out of your soul to drive.

Ok, so if the SS isn't the "Dadmobile", then what is it?

Take whatever it is, move it to the "Dadmobile" bay in the garage, and then buy something new to fill the spot you now use the SS for...

Probably a Silverado with a topper. (Diehard GM person here) And I'd have to work out some kind of heat in the back.

No SUVs this go 'round. Definitely looking for a car of some sort. I should also add that a BMW emblem on the nose is a non-starter as well. I'm just not a fan...

The SS, believe it or not is great with a car seat. They are WAY bigger than they look (or feel) The thing has almost the same footprint as the Yukon in the garage.

Believe it or not, we actually bought the SS for my wife. She drives it more than I do. It was her daily driver until she started working in the city and destroying vehicles. We bought the old Yukon so she wouldn't feel bad about body panels being ripped off of it in micro-sized parking spots.

My daily driver is the big dually.

I love the new LTZ's I just can't bring myself to give in to the puny 5.3L, even with the towing gear it's just not enough motor for daily driving in traffic around here.

Well that leaves two options....Tesla P85D or a Hellcat :leaving:

At twice the price of a CTS-V wagon, that's not a Dadmobile, that's a Fuhrerwagen! :D

OK, I should clarify. My budget doesn't stretch to 6 figures on this one. :)

...although it may have the performance, I don't think the MercWagon looks nearly as good as the V.
