For anyone far left...PLEASE watch this. Right will enjoy it.
This is what an AMERICAN is. You don't have to be born here to be a TRUE American and anyone that even had a fleeting THOUGHT or consideration for Socialism, should take this man's place in Cuba.

I work with a Cuban immigrant.
He is disgusted with the Democrats and the left. He agrees with me. Freedom spoiled as they know nothing else. |

Gay conversion therapy is so very wrong, it's something Hitler would have done! Also the Modern Left: White people need to overcome their Whiteness and Intrinsic Racism! |
There's no question the Cuban government is/was corrupt, but the real reason Cuban people experienced such hardship was the economic sanctions imposed on their country by the rest of the world.
That said I was there a few years ago and things seem to be normalizing. I saw lots of new cars, locals seemed generally happy, well dressed and educated, and food was plentiful. I am not talking just the people at the resort, either. We hired a driver for a day and went to Havana and walked and toured around the whole city. |

Friend of mine escaped shortly after the revolution with his immediate family. Castro took everything they had. His family home and all of their possessions, his grandmothers house in Havana. One of his Uncles was executed for speaking out against the government.
He HATES COMMUNISM. :yesnod: |

First of all, most of the world wasn't boycotting them. Just the USA, Canada somewhat, and a handful of other countries. They could trade with Mexico, or any South American country, or China, etc. The reason they were so poor was that their leaders were communist. That's the reason they were so completely on their asses for many decades. They had all sorts of tourism from other countries, their prostitution business was absolutely lit from what I've heard. But yeah, you see, it wasn't real communism. No, it will work the next time, really it will. Second of all, if the rest of the world decided not to do any business with the USA, we would still be the economic powerhouse we currently are, and likely even better off since we wouldn't be running trade deficits with China, instead the products (and jobs) would be here. Third, economics isn't your strong point, just sayin'. |

And... Cuba was/is in the plight they are because of their government....not sanctions. Sanctions was brought on Cuba because of their government. So many problems in the world today that people just point fingers and blame....offer no solutions...just gripe, bitch, and blame. Get to the root of the problem....get to the bottom line of "what caused xyz to happen". People need to take all that energy they use complaining and pointing fingers and use it positively. |
Oh good God.
Take any socialistic country. I, as a free man do not want to pay 75% of my income to the government. We are nearing 40% in this country now and there will be a tipping point. Period!!!! |
If the rest of the world didn't do business with the USA during the same time period the USA was boycotting Cuba, the USA would have:
The only internet. The only people to the moon. (well, we still do actually) The only microprocessors. The only cell phones. The only personal computers. I could go on. Of course it's entirely possible that other countries could have independently invented these things on their own. You'd have some sort of Soviet-made computer, likely the size of a refrigerator and it ran on 440V three phase and could process 8 bits like no tomorrow. I will say that our space program greatly benefited from the German scientists we spirited over here after WW2, as did the Soviet's. |

How does being arrested for catching a lobster while the government and the elitists feast on them by the boatload, relate to US sanctions? :island14: |

I graduated from the University of Toronto with a double Specialist degree in Economics and Business Finance. This thread is more about politics than economics. I just said you can't ignore the economics when considering the plight of the Cuban people. With that. I'm out. :kimblair: |
