My dad was living in Texas City when 2 ships loaded with aluminum nitrate exploded in the harbor killing over 600 people and destroying part of the city.

I've been in that plant where the SS Grandcamp was berthed when it blew, and you can still drive by on one of the main roads leading to the plant and see one of the propellers from the Grandcamp, a full MILE as the crow flies, from where it was docked

Crazy stuff.

The OKC bomb was ammonium nitrate. And if I remember correctly the there were approximately 7,000 pounds of it plus some high grade explosives and diesel fuel. I was a very large explosion! I was four blocks from the Murrah building and driving straight towards it when the bomb exploded. I won't go into the details but it was loud, devastating, and deadly. I cannot imagine the force of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate. WOW!

I read earlier tonight in the New York times that it was ammonium nitrate.

News just reported that the product was confiscated and stored since 2014. Plenty of time for somebody to do their dirty work

Who stores Anfo? Ammonium nitrate by itself will not explode. You have to add diesel fuel or fuel oil to it as a secondary component. No one I know stores Anfo which stands for Ammonium Nitrate+fuel oil in a volatile state.
