is it correct that the yankees named battles after the nearest town, but the southerners named the same battle after the nearest geographical feature? bull run is a creek.

Yanks - nearby streams, etc...
Confed - man-made structures

And those were the battles in the East. Those here in the west stuck pretty much to the local towns.

The 160th anniversary's are starting up this year for CW battles. The 150th's sucked for reenactors except for G'burg. Some people organize reenactments just to make money. And they make big money at some of them. The 150th's usually had 2 events for each battle and would split up reenactors vs all showing up at one to make it a mega-event.
