Since there are so many old farts around here

I'm gonna pose this question. I have a moderate hearing loss and I am considering getting a hearing aid for tv and maybe some other places. I am thinking I can do ok with something like this.

https://www.mdhearingaid.com/en/prod...g-aid-air-pair

While researching, I found this which makes me think it is a good way to go.

Anyone have any suggestions, experience?

Prime reason I sold my McIntosh stereo system is hearing loss, and NO interest in 'modern' music......and tired of listening to the old stuff, it was nothing but TV sound anyway....well for TV sound, one 'cure' for me is to turn the trebel/high freq all the way up, wife don't seem to mind, and her mother is deaf as a stone, so I also turn up the volume a bit, and wife turns it back down.....

I would find a cheap solution, unless you got mega bux to blow I don't see why some 3000 buck script is any better than one off the shelf for 30 bux....

:confused5:

My wife says I should get hearing aids since I don't always hear her, but frankly I don't see the point.

Putting that aside, I've also wondered about the significantly less expensive alternatives to the $2-3K hearing aids. I'd probably try something like the ones you listed above. If you can trust their money-back free trial, it seems like they're worth trying.

My mother went through several pairs in her later years @ $2-3K each, so it's not like the expensive ones last forever.

I paid $5k for a hearing aid for my wife about ten years ago. Dang thing had Bluetooth and I suspect, a detachable vibrator for that price. It’s been sitting in a drawer for nine years now.

For myself, I have really bad tinnitus. I wish a hearing aid would help

My mother was just about stone deaf so I learned early in life about hearing aids. The cheapos back then had horrible sound and were basically amps. Later when digital units were getting refined she could hear just what she wanted not all the clutter. Her Dr customized them for her and I suspect that made all the difference.
My FIL who worked in a auto plant and onboard ships for 40 years finally got hearing aids about 4 or 5 years ago, made all the difference he said. He didn't realize how bad his hearing had become. His units are in the ear style, and after dealing with my mom's issues I don't think I would wany over the ear myself. So yes you pay for the size of them. His unfortunately do not have bluetooth.
It really depends on your hearing loss and situation which units may be better for you, I wouldn't want your opinion on aids to sour because of cheap units that do not fit right nor perform well.
You don't buy a Yugo and expect Vette performance so don't expect the cheap units to do anywhere as well as the expensive units.

I am on my second pair of hearing aides.

But when at home I don't wear them. Yvonne knows to not talk to me from a distance... so the only time I need assistance at home is when watching TV.

Invest in a pair of wireless headphones; plug them into your TV.

Don’t know much about hearing aids but when there are too many old farts in a room, I open the window.

We were invited to dinner a the house of some friends. After dinner, the host told me he had been to one of those 'Hearing Clinics', and they tried to sell him a pair of hearing aids for $10K. He couldn't believe it. He said he later saw an ad in the Sunday paper for hearing aids for $39.95, and ordered one. Said it worked just as well as those $10K ripoffs. I said, "That's great. What kind is it?"
He then looked at his watch, and replied, "20 minutes past 8".

All day long I ask "What?"
All day long my wife yells "Call the V.A.!"

I'm starting to get the hint.....

I received the hearing aids today. got them working and so far I like them. Around the house, watching tv they are great. Quickly got use to them in my ear.

I had lots of feedback but I adjusted that out ok. If the volume is too high, your own voice is way too loud.

which ones did you end up with ?

snide 12-03-2019 9:23am

Can you now hear your own farts?

No, but there are other ways to detect them.
