What do you call it when a governmental body can prohibit a capital enterprise due to the owner's opinions?

RedLS1GTO 07-27-2012 8:16am

It's a privately held company... they can do whatever they want IMO. If a company wants all straight people, all gay people, all women, all men, all WHATEVER they should be allowed to do it. On the same note, if people don't agree with their stance they can feel free to go elsewhere. Let the market take care of itself.

Unless they are breaking some sort of city ordinance, I don't see what grounds the cities have for not letting them be there.

The New Amerika?

As for the poll (not pole :leaving:)... I choose pie. Agreeing or disagreeing with the gay marriage opinion is unrelated to the fact that Mr. Cathy is entitled to his own opinion which should have absolutely ZERO effect on whether he is allowed to operate a business in a location.

Hoog 07-27-2012 8:17am

I say let the man have his opinion and run his company the way he sees fit. The Mayors should stay the fug out of it, and let folks decide for themselve whether or not to patronize Chic Fil A.

Agree/disagree with what?

Is the owner of Chic-Fil-A allowed to hold personal views on this subject? Yes. Is he allowed to speak them in public? Yes. Is a government agency allowed to prevent him from opening up a store in their town because of the views he holds? Abso-fuking-lutely not. Each and every government entity that tries to will be bitch slapped into court and lose, big time. Are citizens allowed to protest and refuse to purchase from this store? You betcha!

I also disagree that his statements were anti-gay marriage. He was simply stating his Biblical belief in what a true marriage is.

G8rDMD 07-27-2012 8:19am

1. I'm a Christian and believe in the bible.

2. I don't judge people because, gasp, I am not better than anyone else.

3. If homosexuals want to get married, I really don't care. See #2.

4. Chick-fil-a has always been a Christian-centered company. They don't open on Sundays, etc.

5. For the owner to make a statement like he did is two things:
a. Impressive because he is standing up for his beliefs no matter what the cost.
b. Not incredibly smart because he is alienating an entire group and that's not how you run a successful business.

6. For mayors to tell a business to GTFO is asinine. Mayors should want to build commerce and create jobs any way possible. Let Chick-fil-a come in and let the PEOPLE decide with their money whether to support them or not. That's how a free and capitalistic society should work, right?

7. In the end this is all bullshit. If a restaurant said they only want to serve homosexuals, they'd be embraced.

Your poll options are backward. If you agree with Mr. Cathay, then you think gay marriage is wrong. If you disagree with him, then you're OK with it.

THE most goofchinked poll/thread in months.

...Whitepower... 07-27-2012 8:25am

Alright guys.. Save your responses as a word doc on your desk top so you can copy and paste in a few..

RedLS1GTO 07-27-2012 8:27am

Dude... re-post the original thread.

I can edit the poll.

What do you want as the thread title?

I have no idea what you have done here. :willy:

The poll is fixed, with a 3rd option added. :D

Paste what you want as the first post as a response here and I can fix that it in about 2 seconds as well.

Hoog 07-27-2012 8:40am

My stance on the poll is irrelevent to the OP. I don't have a problem with Gay marriage, but the man can run his company any way he wants....so I voted MFin Pie.

Chris Fowler 07-27-2012 8:42am

I agree with freedom of speech...

You know what...never really put much thought into that even though I've seen you say it before....but I believe that is a pretty damn good answer to not only this issue, but many others.

Have to do some mulling over on this one...
