Some People Did Something ! Where Were You ??

I'll Start I was on The Island of Maui on that fateful day.We got a call at 3am in the morning from my sister and she said "turn on the TV" we said WTF so we did and that is just when the 2nd plane hit the tower. We were scheduled to leave that Wednesday and United told us that they weren't flying back to The Mainland for another week so we got an extra week on the island.

Fortunately sitting on my ass at home. But all of my reporting engineers were out, and all over the country. They all had to drive home, some all the way across the US. One guy was working at a hospital inside the safety zone and had to leave with just the clothes on his back. Took months to get his tool kit back.

I had to go in for knee surgery in a few days so was breaking in a new driver to cover my deliveries. Had the trucks radio off. My cell rang and it was my wife she told me a plane had hit the towers. I said WOW what bad luck and it could do a lot of damage. Then hung up and went back to driving still had the truck radio off.

A little while more and my wife calls again and said the other tower just got hit.

My exact reply was "we are at war with someone, this is going to be real bad"

At that point turned on the truck radio.

I was at work and a truck drive in to pick up parts came in and said something bad is happening in New York. We turned on the radio and couldn't believe what we were hearing.:sadangel:

I was on I80 driving east to Des Moines Iowa to pick up something for work.

Was listening to a local college radio station and someone called in and said a plane hit a tower, and they hung up on them and laughed it off.
Then more calls came in.

I made it over to meet the guy early in the news breaking and headed back home and thought I needed to remember to watch the news that night, thinking it was a little commuter plane or something.

Then the reports started coming in and everything on the radio was panic about how many were out there, where it was going to happen next.

I stopped at a huge truck stop and went in to use the bathroom, and the lobby area for truckers was packed, shoulder to shoulder watching the news broadcasts.

I was a little freaked out, so I hopped back in the van and the interstate was EMPTY the rest of the way home.
That poor work minivan was near 100mph a good portion of the rest of the trip.

I just wanted to get home and see WTF was going on.

I was reading in the outpatient center for the Mobile Infirmary that day. I knew something big was going on from the general level of tension in the place but we were packed and I figured the best thing I could do was take care of the patients' needs. I did not understand what had happened that day until about 2:30 pm when I finished up the workload. :sadangel:

I was at work in my mid-town Manhattan office, actually interviewing a potential hire when the first plane hit. When I got out of the interview, the office was in pandemonium, and I saw the second tower get hit on a TV. My wife was frantically trying to get in touch with me because my job often required me to go to our Water Street office, which meant that I might have been coming on the path train into World Trade at about that time, and she hadn't asked me which office I was going to be in that day, but all the circuits from NJ to NYC were full, and no one could get through.

She finally found out I was OK by calling her sister in Boston, and having her call me. I spoke to my SIL and assured her I was about 4 miles from ground zero, and she relayed that back to my wife.

Working in my home office and was told by a sales representative to turn on the TV. Watched the 2nd plane hit. Called my wife and told her to get the kids out of school and then come directly home.

Working at BWI with local, state, and federal LE agencies training with K-9 exercises on various cargo planes, UPS, FedEx, etc.

Then worked the next 6 weeks straight at BWI, 12 on 12 off with US Marshals, NG, local LE processing passengers and cargo.

Wow... 34 years old at the time. My daughter was born a month later.

Was at a sales meeting at a Holiday Inn. I had heard "plane hit World Trade Center" and thought, "Cessna".

The feeling that day was indescribable and I've never felt that way since.

Working in a Scif, happen to walk up frt and saw the news showing the 1st hit and then the 2nd.
Then went and watched and listened to planes heading to Alaska being within a minute of being shot down by fighters. The next few months were total hell getting units ready to deploy, driving all over and remote working on shit all over the world. Had a dr appt for the pregnant wife the next day and traffic was a bit brutal, most people waited in lines for 6 to 10 hrs to get on post.
The wouldn't let people turn around and when ran out of gas they towed yer car off freeways, total shit show the way it was handled.
I don't remember the next week or two until kid was born then back at it.

I heard about the first plane and went to our break room and turned on the TV to see the second plane hit. I remember wondering what the most likely targets would be and felt fairly safe being in Houston. The port had potential as a target, but it was too far away to have any impact on me.

I was at my shop when we heard that a plane hit the tower. I went to the closest store and bought a small TV for my office. We watched the news for the rest of the day. :sadangel::sadangel:

Happened to be in between jobs. Woke up to see the news about the first attack.

Bill 09-07-2021 5:08pm

I was getting a late start, about to meet my crew on a job site, at a chemical plant on the Ship Channel, no less. Saw the news and video of the first plane....called my guys and told them to go home and turn on the TV.

We said we would never forget, then kept on importing Muslims, and even voted the enemy into Congress. Our country really does deserve to fail.

We were chillin and had just returned the evening before from Venice FL. We have friends in the area and made several trips down that summer.

Strangely we were at a seafood festival at the Venice airport where I understand a few of the hijackers trained that summer.

I’ve often wondered since, were those guys there when we were? :willy:

John Wiz 09-07-2021 8:40pm

I was in my office, and was getting ready to head to Dulles to fly to New York on a late morning flight. One of my friends came and and told me a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center, I thought he was messing with me as I really didn't want to go to New York (not my favorite place to travel to). Needless to say, he wasn't kidding - and I never did go...
