Typhoon Hagupit
http://weather.com.ph/announcements/...ate-number-001
Looks like you are right in line for a hit on Saturday. You might go get some petrol for the generator, plenty of water, and rice...It is still getting stronger. |
Jeepers, that is quite ominous!
|
Aw, it's just a little rain and wind!:leaving:
|
:willy: Damn. Didn't we just do this?
|
Fe, next door is from Philippians and went 'home for 2-3? months a couple weeks ago.....:sadangel:

Why won't typhoons leave Tim alone?
|
Damn....that could be bad. :sadangel:
|
Found this pic recently. Been meaning to send it to Tim. http://i57.tinypic.com/281v8yu.jpg If you look closely, Tim's house is right across the street from the church and basketball court.
The stage in the area by the basketball court is where Santa handed out presents last year. |

That was my first thought when I read Robs mail to warn us awhile ago.. They say a nipa roof is good for about 8 years.. but It does not sound like I'm going to get a chance to find out.. This time I am going to start moving anything that can be water damaged out to the guest house where there is a steel roof and still put tarps over everything. |

|
Too early to track it accurately yet but they are saying it looks like it will land at Samar... so we are in the path if it stays on track.
It does not sound as bad as last years though, and we do not have many trees left to fall like before. http://www.diveandtrek.com/The%20Phi...s%20(1986).jpg |
Well hell....
Just heard a siren as a police truck just pulled up out at the basketball court and they were making an announcement over a bull horn for us to evacuate to higher ground tomorrow when the rain starts.. They are really worried about storm surge especially because it might be high tide, where as last years storm it was low tide at the time it hit. The official weather news website says it will be later though and shows it hitting us on Sunday.. so not sure why they are warning us for tomorrow. Looks like a bulls eye again.. :yesnod: This one wont be as strong of a storm it appears so far, but will still probably take the roof off again.. :( http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/images...phoon_Ruby.JPG |
:willy:
|
Dang Tim. I hate hearing that. Just make sure you have enough water and rice in case things are down there for a little while.
You heading to Dino's house? |
I was just told to tell you guys that you need to head over to Mandaue in the morning. Not sure if they have shut off the ferries though?
|
I think we still have a few days, tomorrow we will stock up on water, rice and some food stocks.
The weather website says Sunday morning. http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph Will start moving everything to the guest house tomorrow so less likely to get wet like the last time unless there is a storm surge, but then it will be underwater if so. Probably head up to Dino's place again for the high ground after the power goes out here on Saturday sometime I'm guessing. I can't go to Mandaue, and have too much work to do here to get ready for this.. the boats are still running and the weather was beautiful here today, so I will ask Irish if she wants to head down to the City tomorrow with the kids. Not sure how bad this will be but guessing the power will be out at least a few days and so will all cell phones, So we will text MC to let her know we are ok as soon as we can. The generator runs but is not making electric, the mechanic says he will be here Friday to see if he can fix it. I really do not want to go through all this crap again.... |
Wow, that's going to cut down on your drinking time a lot.....fixing all that stuff AGAIN! :(
Stay safe Tim and family. :ohnoes: |

Sustained winds of 180 mph as of tonight. :sadangel: Prayers for all folks in the way of that bitch. That's a LOT of wind/water. Scott |

I see now that they say this one has increased to a Super Typhoon also. This map above that you found shows it is going to turn north and the eye will miss us and we will not be in the danger zone. The map below I have been following shows it is going to drive right over us again.. http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/tropical-cyclone http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/images/ruby_14120318.gif I know you studied weather some Rob, so please explain this to me.. How in the heck can they say this is going to change track before it gets here? It's wind! heck it does not have a mind or even know where it is going or what it is going to do itself? :island14: Last year with Yolanda the tracking showed it was going to go north of us, but at the last moment it zigged when it was suppose to zag and drove right over us. I'm thinking it easy to track and see the direction where it is going, but they can only just make educated guesses as to any changes in direction. :island14: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ It is late in the day here now so no more boats, but I plan to send Irish and the Kids to the City on the first boat out in the morning. Better safe than sorry.. and I want to make sure they are all OK. Last year the house we were in at Dino's place on high ground.. the whole roof was ripped off, I was worried at the time the concrete walls would collapse... and it does happen. I saw many concrete walls that did not make it last year. :yesnod: Myself and brother in law Ariel will stay here with the house and try to save all we can from the storm. |

They named it Ruby here now, and that is my Moms name. For some reason I feel like Mom is out there watching over us and everything will be ok. :cert: Home | Weather Philippines Quote:

Kind of a funny story from last night while drinking some Rhum with a few of the guys.
I was telling Tata how I do not wish any harm to others, but I do pray that this storm will go north and miss us. Tata thought about it for a second then said.. "Yeah but... just remember there are a whole lot of people up north praying it right back to us..." :Jeff '79: |

Glad Irish and the kids are getting out of there. Wish you were also though. |

If you want to get real technical - you have to look at things like the isobars which are the linear lines of wind based on a directional inbound or outbound flow. Look at this map - you can see that there is some strong pressure coming out of Japan right now so my guess is that Ruby will track more south than north. earth :: an animated map of global wind, weather, and ocean conditions And there is nothing to the south of Ruby that appears to be holding it back from descending. Here is a screen capture of it currently if the java applet does not load http://i60.tinypic.com/1e9qfc.jpg |
:ohnoes: Prayers and positive thoughts for you and your family Tim.

Looks pretty serious.
Get to high ground and hunker down. |

From what you say and I see the chances are more likely to head more to us than away. Remember after last years storm I said, what are the odds of this happening again in a lifetime? and I thought they were very slight.. First of all I doubted there would be another storm as big as Yolanda, and even less likely that it would be here again if it did happen. I see now that this is not as big as Yolanda was yet, but still has a few more days to build up to be as big or even possibly bigger they are saying. Meanwhile all is calm before the storm here.. Everyone seems relaxed but worried some, today was sunny and beautiful out all day, this evening there is a slight breeze that feels good and normal for this time of the year. Disco over in Sillion again tonight, we may go later for something to do. All ferry boats out are cancelled already I just found out awhile ago, even though the weather is fine here for now.. so the only way for Irish and the kids to go is by pump boat, and I am seriously not going to risk putting them on a pump boat. |

These guys were driving around warning everyone about the coming storm yesterday over the loud speakers, and telling everyone to move to high ground when the storm starts.
A lot of people do not have anywhere to go so will stay at the Church or the School with at least concrete walls. http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/photos/SAM_1855.JPG http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/photos/SAM_1856.JPG Poor little Amber my daughter is scared and has her bag all packed and ready to go to the city.. She will be disappointed when she wakes up to hear there are no more boats. http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/photos/SAM_1968.JPG |

We do not have much, but don't want to loose what little we have. All coconuts will be downed so they do not end up as cannon balls blasting through my roof like the last time... I know what does and does not need to be moved downstairs to protect it now from experience.. When the power goes out sometime on Saturday.. I will pack up the computer in a plastic sack as it is my job and our income and need to protect it. But at the end of the day when I have done all I can to pack things away the best I can.. The most important thing is for me to be with my little ones to protect them all.. :yesnod: I will be right beside them to do the best that I can to make sure they are all ok, the same as the last time.. :seasix: :cert: |

Sounds like Tim and family are at the evacuation center with the kids.
I also saw that the storm is weakening and heading a bit north of his island. Hopefully it will just be a bit of rain and that's all. |
Irish and the kids all left to higher ground this morning and I have been moving stuff around to better spots to stay dry in case we loose the roof again.
Better safe than sorry I guess.. I just got back home from checking on my family and the feeling is kinda surreal out there tonight. Not many people out, and the few I saw were carrying sacks of possessions so I assumed they were heading to higher ground places to stay. The churches and schools are already full of people sleeping there, I guess they wanted to be early to reserve themselves a spot. The place where Irish wanted to go is over near Sillion on high ground, it's where Tata's mother in law lives, in a group of homes that were built by Islamic Relief. Nicely built small homes about the size of a one car garage, 14 X 16 foot.. and about 75 of them lined up in rows. Plenty far enough from the sea and high enough so no problems, and no trees nearby to fall on the homes there either... so that I liked. Chico my older son came home with me as he was bored there, but we will head back over there sometime tomorrow. Like Rob said it looks like the eye of the storm is going to pass north of us from the maps online at this time, and the storm has also started to slow down some they say. So things are looking better now as compared to yesterday anyways.. I think they should just cancel it due to rain myself. :D |
Quote:
How well do you like your in-laws? :island14: :D I think it is still a signal 2 even down in Cebu City, but goes down to a signal 1 further south of there. |
Good luck and stay safe Tim.

Just be safe brother. I don't want anything to happen to anyone there.
|
Rob I thought about posting this in your Christmas decoration thread but figured here works also..
When you see it.. http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/photos/SAM_2141.jpg |
A few pics from where we will stay tomorrow night during the storm, not as fancy as our hut, but probably a lot safer location.
Last house on the left. I still may transfer everyone over to Dino's place, but Irish is scared to go back there after loosing the roof last year. http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/photos/SAM_2142.jpg http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/photos/SAM_2143.jpg http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/photos/SAM_2144.jpg http://freeshopmanual.com/uploads/photos/SAM_2145.jpg |

If the charts showing the direction of the storm are correct, we will take a hit, but not anywhere near like last year.
The eye will pass just north of us and we will only be hit with the pink area for awhile. Not sure how long, maybe 6 to 8 hours as this thing is moving slow. I'm just hoping to still have a roof, and the electric back on again soon. They will shut the power down sometime today for safety, not sure when but in case it happens soon I wanted to say thanks for all of the prayers and good wishes. Power will be off for awhile, and cell phones will be down also a few days probably. Rob will be in touch with with our family down in the city so will be able to update some. See you all again on the back side of this. :cert: http://weather.com.ph/images/20141205231537.gif |

Prayers for you and your family, Tim.

Still have electric for now, but made my post above before it goes out.
It will be hard to say... "well the electric is out now" when they cut it. We just used a big rope to tie down the front part of the house to help hold the roof on when it comes. Thinking about it now, the winds will be coming from the backside after it passes so far, so should go try to find some more rope for the back also if I can. Lot of the neighbors are tying down their homes also. Took some pics but my wife has the cord with her... |
Stay safe man. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Gods speed.

Stay safe guys. Tim, I will text Irish to check on you guys, just remind her she can chat me back on FB is she doesn't have load
