My Cousin is staying another night - she's not thrilled
She stopped here last night, had dinner, we had a good talk, made everyone breakfast this morning, and she went out to start up her converted Sprinter van and .....no go. it landed at a garage in ABQ a few hours ago, and the initial diagnosis is 6 dead glow plugs, and the starter system won't recognize her key as valid....
they'll work on it tonight and tomorrow, call when they have plan and when they get it fixed. we're expecting a $1200 bill when all is said and done. i don't think she has 1200 spare. we'll likely chip in a few coins. she's a successful, albeit not well paid, actress, heading to Cleveland to join their spring Shakespeare group. due there the 24th, so she has time to get this fixed, but not much money or patience. meanwhile, we get to talk to her more and share stories and have good meals. bought her a 6 pack of beer she picked out. a local Santa Fe Brewing offering. tough day for her. |
Good family is good. :seasix:

I find it difficult to believe that every single glow plug went bad simultaneously. My Dodge has had several electrical gremlins. For starters the WIN unit, the "keyhole" on the dash that reads the key had to be replaced, and there was a recall for the shift interlock. I also had to have the accelerator pedal replaced.....drive by wire at its finest.
I was left stranded on the side of the road after losing power and had to disconnect both batteries and wait a few minutes, then reconnect them, and the truck started right up, like rebooting a computer. None of that had to do with glow plugs. I'm really skeptical they all are bad, all at the same time. |
Yup, I was thinking the same thing. How did all of them go bad at once? :confused5:
|
They didn’t all go bad at once. When she left CA, 4 were dead, 2 still good. Guess the last two dies yesterday.

I don't have any personal experience but I've heard horror stories from others about those sprinter vans, mostly around the availability of parts. Good luck to your sister, I hope she gets back on the road soon!

Sure hope you’re also treating yourselves and stranded family guest to some of the best green chili in the world there in your local back yard! (Say hello to the awesome Brandt family, owners at Capitol Ford in Santa Fe for me if you are a Ford owner! I helped put them in business (as their former Ford rep). Dave |

Jessika is a neat lady. different, but neat.
she wants me to build her a kitchen someday. i told her i want her to be a huge success, earn lots of money, and then we'll talk. all overnight successes take 15 years to happen, right? |
what was the damage?
