Looking to buy a 76 coupe - VIN question
I’m looking at a 76 coupe.. The Vin has a “D” for factory location- I’ve only seen an “S” for St Louis.. what is the “D” for? Thanks

Hi Zeng56 and welcome to the forum!
What is the complete VIN? I had a '76 for about ten years. |
A 1976 Corvette is from the third generation of Corvettes, commonly referred to as the C3.
I'm moving this thread to the C3 discussion forum section. Might get more responses over there. |
Post the full VIN.

I found this on the web.
https://www.thevettebarn.com/forums/...pictureid=2753 I don't see any reference to a D. Could it be the seller made a typo and he hit the letter D accidentally in the ad instead of the letter S? They are right next to each other on the keyboard. |
I would be checking other locations for the vin number if possible. That "D" is for a plant in Doraville, Georgia that never made Corvettes as far as I know.
Maybe its a stolen car? Looks like they made a Monte Carlo there in '76. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doraville_Assembly https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_General_Motors_factories |
All Vettes in that model year were made in St. Louis.
I think somewhere in 1981 they moved production to Bowling Green, KY. |
