Fer years now I been using Mr Coffee brand machines....and not long ago I found out how to be less frustrated pulling the filters apart for use....

turn the whole pack of them inside out!!!! makes them separate easy for use......God I"m lazy and it took a fight with one that I finally found out the trick.......:seasix::hurray:

Disposable filter problems....I use a reuseable filter seems to work well.

If we are talking general swill, my last two coffee makers were Bunn. They are great machines, except they have an inherent design flaw with their carafe's, at least their home owner models. It's an extremely piss-poor design that seems to encourage the spilling of water/coffee.

Advantage to the Bunn makers are SPEED. They keep a tank hot and ready and brew FAST. They are difficult to get the right mix though, and seem to require extra grounds to get the coffee to my desired strength.

When my last Bunn gave out, I bought a Calphalon at Target. I'm actually really happy with it. Brews a decent cup. Not as fast as the Bunn, but then again it doesn't have a reservoir tank to facilitate the fast brewing. Carafe design is WAY better. My Bunn's used standard filters, where as the Calphalon uses conical filters.

I bought an industrial supply of paper conical filters for my new maker, but when those dry up, I may go to a reusable type.

That said, I use an El-Cheapo Mr. Coffee at the Cabin, and am happy with it. $20 Coffee maker has been going for 5+ years, but I don't use it every day.

Mr Coffee been here for some 15 years, doing 2 pots/day.....

I tried the screen/reusable filter, but too many/much with the sludge in bottom of the pot, so I use it with the bottom cut out to put in middle of the paper filters, to hold them upright for sure....:seasix: damn little sludge and no grounds.....

I use a Keurig. Brews fast, and everybody here likes a different flavored coffee, so brewing separate pots is not very convenient. I like just normal unflavored coffee myself and am happy with the results from it. :yesnod:

Yeh, Chuck and I used to head over to Ernies across the street most mornings for coffee, newspaper, and a bit of TV news, and BS of course....45 minits at most....but with Ernie passing, we set in front of my house, same shit but no TV....and everyone has their own ideas/opinions of how to brew a mug of coffee.....they liked it industrial strength, 1-2 mugs and set for the day....ME, I can't take that, more normal intensity outta the red can, and drink 3-4 mugs every AM......

We're on our second Cuisinart pot-o-covfefe machine, all we've used for the past 20 or so years. Makes decent swill.

Every reusable I have tried lets lots of small particles through. If you know of a reusable filter that works as well as a paper one please tell me where to buy it.

:waiting:

I use a burr grinder, set to a coarser size to ensure no particles get through. Which also means i get fresh ground coffee every morning :yesnod:

here's the filter I use and have NO grit. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00005QT..._yZRvDbXRMKVVH

I also use a burr grinder. Grind it fresh every morning while water is heating for the French Press. Sludge??? Yep, always some with a French Press and it doesn't bother me at all. My favorite way to make coffee by far.

Mmmmm I wish I had time on a normal morning for the French Press. I travel with my Press when on vacation to make my own, but my normal mornings just go through a Krupp coffee maker.

Spoiled rotten on K-cups, chucked all the other coffee makers years ago. I even carry my own one cup maker when traveling.
Favorite now......McCafe.

Bought the wife a Nespresso last week. Wish I had done this a long time ago. I can now make a true cappuccino. The coffee pods are separated by levels. Level 5 is American style. Level 8-12 is European/Turkish/ are you having a heart attack or is it just the caffeine ?
