vegan demands neighbour stop cooking barbecues

A Perth vegan has taken her neighbours all the way to the Supreme Court, demanding they stop smoking, bouncing balls and even cooking barbecues in the backyard.
Cilla Carden, from Girrawheen, in Perth's northern suburbs said she's fed up with the smell of meat cooking on the barbecue next door.
"They've put it there so I smell fish, all I can smell is fish. I can't enjoy my backyard, I can't go out there."

Ms Carden, a massage therapist, is also furious at cigarette smoke wafting into her yard and the sound of children playing with basketballs next door.
"It's been devastating, it's been turmoil, it's been unrest, I haven't been able to sleep," she said.
But one neighbour invited 9News into the backyard, to show that he's removed the barbecue and told his children to stop playing basketball.
Ms Carden is so upset she has taken her neighbours to the State Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court.

But a Supreme Court Judge and the State Administrative Tribunal have sided with her neighbours, dismissing her case.
Her request to appeal the decisions has also been refused.
Ms Carden says she won't give up on her fight and will return to court soon.

I can sympathize. I'm no vegan but I hate it when the pollutants (both smoke and noise) my neighbors generate interferes with my peaceful enjoyment of my property. Many people are basically just inconsiderate ****s.

True, but cooking on a grill and children playing basketball are hardly interfering with her peaceful enjoyment. Tough shit lady.

Now, if they were doing that at 2 o'clock in the morning, I would say otherwise.

We have a neighbor that moved in a few years ago that immediately started throwing wild parties until 2/3 in the morning.

My wife went off on the lady, told her she was a shitty neighbor etc. Nothing changed.

One night they were partying and playing their music (LOUD) in their backyard at about 2AM. I had enough and called the police. They actually came, to my surprise.

Since then, they have been much more respectful and we actually get along with them, for the most part, now. :island14:

Yeah, they occasionally have a party, but it is at a much more respectful level now.

It's probably a townhouse setup and they're right on top of each other... A good reason NOT to ive in the city. She could have a neighbor who never cleans up the dog poop maybe once a year so she's lucky.

When I was in my 20's and having parties about once a month on the weekends, I would go to all my neighbors and let them know when the party was starting, a general count of the number of people coming, when the party would be over, and finally, they were also invited. Never had an issue with any of our parties. Neighbors never showed up, but they had my phone number of there was any issues.

This lady is a hard core asshole. When living next to people, there has to be compromises. If you don't like it, buy a small island.

Lighten up, Nancy. :shots:
My neighbors regularly have gatherings in the back yard. Cookouts, lots of Mexican music, and people. It's a minor inconvenience. And they usually invite us.
I just wish they'd learn how to park. Often too close to the road making it hard for us to see getting out.
