So I'm on the phone with the wife, and she tells me she is gonna fly into Vegas

to meet some guy she found on Craigslist.

Should I be concerned?

Rob 03-14-2013 10:40am

I told her not to tell you that she and I were meeting :slap:

Wes - All kidding aside...I hope you are kidding about Winny meeting someone out there. If she is going, make sure she takes someone with her that you know and trust.

wesmigletz 03-14-2013 10:41am

Said she's gonna pay the balance on the camaro we're buying for my son, Reb, and arrange shipment for it back to CA.

As long as he's not from Nigeria...

Rob, her niece may be going with her. Not sure. The guy selling the car is an older dude, and sounded like a decent guy on the phone. The plan is for her to fly in Sunday AM and fly out Sunday afternoon. She's not carrying cash, but I'd rather she drive down, or just sent the US Postal money orders like I suggested.

Grey Ghost 03-14-2013 11:48am

I agree with Dixie. Not trying to be a male chauvinist or anything. I just don't think it is safe.

Are there any VB or CF members that can tag alone with her ?

wesmigletz 03-14-2013 1:22pm

Grey Ghost, I agree with both Dixie and you. Just got off the phone with the guy. Had him send a pic of the title and vin and he agreed to accept US postal money orders.

The wife let a co-worker convince her that she should get the title in person. If I were there, we'd just drive down and pick the car up. I've bought on ebay before and did fine with postal money orders. I'm perfectly OK having the car shipped sight unseen.

Grey Ghost 03-14-2013 2:14pm

Y'all will have some great fun and memories building that car :seasix:

Do you still have your solid axle ?

:iagree:

Post it up and see who can meet up with her.

But then again, I'd be worried about some of the characters here also...:leaving:

I bet Reb is excited about the new ride. :seasix:

Wes, see if someone from OT who lives in LV can go with her. This is not safe.

I can possibly assist as well. Maybe both of us? What day is this happening?

Is this a new or classic type of Camaro? She coming out to pay the balance and collect the title then arrange shipping?

Edit: Could not see the pictures at work. Looks like a fun project.

wesmigletz 03-15-2013 1:41am

Thanks for the offers of assistance. She won't be flying out. The car isn't cherry, but it's still fairly solid and in one piece. Anything decent in the LA area is overpriced, or gone as soon as it's listed. The car isn't cherry, which is good, because I will worry less about the car when Reb is out in it. He'll have a chance to improve his mechanic skills and learn to do a bit of welding too. I'll be back in the Sates late Summer and out of the Army 1 NOV, and look forward to hitting this car hard with Reb and getting it on the road for him. He will be 16 in DEC.

When I was growing up, I was always helping my old man work on his Harleys. He had a 67 Triumph bike they we were gonna build together, but it never happened. I'm gonna do my best to get Reb into a decent car and spend as much time to teach him what I know and try to make up for the years lost while I was off playing GI Joe.

Still have the 62. I'd have sold it a long time ago, but I made the mistake of using it as my wedding car, so now it owns me, rather than the other way around. Mei and Reb drove it to a Corvette event a2t the Peterson Automotive Museum the other day. I haven't really driven it for the past four years.

onedef92 03-15-2013 1:34pm

Did you ever make it to a Corvette Forum gathering in the 62? If I remember correctly, there was one year you and your wife attempted to make it to BG and had mechanical problems and had to abort. :confused5:

GentleBen 03-15-2013 2:11pm

Oh yeah, Wes and Mei made to Bowling Green for a CI. As I recall he had to borrow some tools and ramps to do a minor rebuild of the engine in the '62 in the Hampton parking lot, but they certainly made it in and back to California on their own. They also made another Ci with Reb with them but minus the Corvette.

Wes, how many years total will you have when you get out in November?

I remember one year there was this old dude who looked like Howard Schnellenberger and drove a faded, Tuxedo Black, '64 Stingray coupe.

I remember on one occasion he kept getting kudos from everyone for having the chutzpah to keep a survivor's car in the game and he gruffly replied while sucking on his pipe to relight it, "I got it to drive, not to look at!"

Looks like a good solid project. My kids have been helping me with the '72 Vette which is finally almost all together. I, like you have been deployed enough to last me a lifetime. I have missed everyone's birthday here at home a minimum of twice, and after a minute, you realize how fast time really goes by. Have fun with it!:seasix:
