1976 $2 bill

1 Attachment(s)
My wife has been scouring the safe for savings bonds for GWiz, and has found several cards with cash in them from many many years ago, but just now, Mrs. Wiz said I found a $2 bill from her grandmother....

That reminded me, I have a $2 bill in an American Heritage Dictionary that I've had since BEFORE I met Mrs. Wiz 27 years ago. It's from 1976 and it's PERFECT. Wonder if some day it might be worth $3. I've had that in my dictionary since college in the mid 80's.

I have a bunch of those as well, part of my retirement plan. Eventually burn them for heat. :)

We gave all ours away, the kids thought they were as valuable as gold :seasix:

Old Ben 01-19-2020 4:07pm

I remember when my Father was stationed in Bethel Park, just south of Pittsburgh, in the 50s. He was paid in all $2 bills because the locals said that the GIs were not spending their money downtown and that was the Army's way of showing differently.

Aerovette 01-19-2020 4:18pm

I have a $2 bill from 1953 and it is worth $4, so you do have a shot at hitting $3.

DAB 01-19-2020 4:22pm

have a set of 3, consecutive serial numbers. also pristine.

MrPeabody 01-19-2020 4:26pm

My grandfather collected $2 bills for a long time. whenever he had a few extra bucks to save, he would go to the bank and get new $2 bills and put them in his safe deposit box. Sometimes he would get five or ten of them, all new with consecutive serial numbers. When he died in '74 his safe deposit box had hundreds of them, from as far back as the 1930s, all new and basically never circulated. I don't know what my grandmother did with them.

If Princes William and Harry went to titty bars for their bachelor parties, what would it be like for them to see their friends stuffing pictures of their grandmother into the dancer's underwear?

Got a bunch of them. Evidently, they are still worth $2.:seasix: Which is worth way less than when they came out. F'n shitty investment if there ever was one.

I'm not really a collector but picked this up last week.
We believe it may be the only one of it's kind/shape in existence.

Not super valuable but pretty cool.

Chumlee at Gold Silver Pawn in Vegas offered $1.25 each for all my $2 bills saved over the years...

told that doofus to F-off at 1.25 each..

Got a Six Pack of Busch Tall Boy Cans at the liquor store next door to tuck in my belt as I hit the Strip, just like Cousin Eddie

RMVette 01-20-2020 8:13am

I have a couple of the $2 bills.

I also have a $5 bill that doesn't have printed "In God We Trust" on it. Probably worth $5.50 now.

Same here.

StaticCling 01-21-2020 8:23am

I have a bunch of old paper money. I'll try to post some pictures.

I have a couple of Series of 1914 Bills, I believe collectors call them "foldies" because they are about twice the size of modern notes. One is a 5, the other is a 10. Interestingly enough, Andrew Jackson is on the 10 dollar note.

I have several Silver Certificates, including a few funny backs, and some 1950's series 2 dollar notes which have the Monticello on the back instead of the Declaration signing.

I have a $500 in fairly good shape as well. Series of 1934.

Anytime I get an old style note in change, I save it. And I collect 1's older than the 1980s. Check the dates, sometimes you get some old ones!

I just checked for the only time in the last 25 years or so, from being a kid yet...I have twenty Silver certs 1957 a mostly and b also.....including one that shows just series 1957......

and one res note series 1985 but watt makes it special is damn nearly uncirculated BUT the print is off about 3/16 inch or so, to the top so the top is missing about 1/2 the print where it say Fed Res note......the bottom white edge is wide....

so a defective note.....:confused5: probably worth a grand or so....

many sheets of 1-2-3-5 cent stamps too.....probably worthless....

Aerovette 01-21-2020 10:50am

I don't have any money of value...including my checking account. :D

I have a few old bills & coins, but the one most interesting to me is a $1 silver certificate that was my father's. It has a load of signatures on it from his WWII shipmates. I can make out a few of the names from some of the stories he told.
