I's a simply 8'-0" x 6'-6", with a framed opening on one of the longer sides.
Any good ideas appreciated...

Okay, this is a tad long.
We bought our home back in 97. Standard sliding door closet with those wire rack looking racks inside to hang clothes from and stash shit on top.
Well, maybe 5-6 years later we're actually heading out the door to the airport to send my wife to Florida for Thanksgiving, I stayed behind.
So we heard this huge rumbling that shook the walls. We went looking upstairs to see wtf happened but found nothing. Kept looking and saw the sliding closet doors bowed out.
Well over the years, she had so much crap hanging and on top of the rack, it came down. So I dropped her at th airport and now had something to do for the long weekend.
The braces were against the drywall but not in areas where a stud was behind it and they were now in the wall.
So I decided to bullet proof it. I had 2x4's on the side. and ran a 1 x 4 the width of the closet mounting the brackets to it.
I also decide to make it a double rack raising the wire shelf up a few inches. Then installed a second one underneath with a standard closet pole along with 1 & 2 x for strength.
So instead of one row for clothes, she now has 2 rows for shirts and pants only. Basically 2 closets in one. I hung a few shirts on it to get good spacing for the lower rack. She still had a little spacing for shoes and junk along the bottom
Dresses and long things are in another closet
