Closet ideas

The wife wants a custom closet. One place wouldn't return the call and the other is two weeks out for a measurement/ consultation and 12 or more weeks out after that for installation. I know that when she get the estimate I'll be ax'd to do it myself, so might just as well plan for that now....

I's a simply 8'-0" x 6'-6", with a framed opening on one of the longer sides.

Any good ideas appreciated...

Get back in the closet. :seasix:

I have found that using SS pipe and flanges work very well for closet rods. It eliminates any need for center support up to 5-6 feet.

I’m old school and like painted wood shelving. 1x6 wall “cleats” and 1x12 shelving boards. High/Low and full height, and linen or shoe shelves are simple to design and build.

coming out of the closet is just a colorful saying. you dont need an actual closet.

You build the box, then ask her what she wants inside. You are welcome.

Okay, this is a tad long.

We bought our home back in 97. Standard sliding door closet with those wire rack looking racks inside to hang clothes from and stash shit on top.

Well, maybe 5-6 years later we're actually heading out the door to the airport to send my wife to Florida for Thanksgiving, I stayed behind.

So we heard this huge rumbling that shook the walls. We went looking upstairs to see wtf happened but found nothing. Kept looking and saw the sliding closet doors bowed out.

Well over the years, she had so much crap hanging and on top of the rack, it came down. So I dropped her at th airport and now had something to do for the long weekend.

The braces were against the drywall but not in areas where a stud was behind it and they were now in the wall.

So I decided to bullet proof it. I had 2x4's on the side. and ran a 1 x 4 the width of the closet mounting the brackets to it.

I also decide to make it a double rack raising the wire shelf up a few inches. Then installed a second one underneath with a standard closet pole along with 1 & 2 x for strength.

So instead of one row for clothes, she now has 2 rows for shirts and pants only. Basically 2 closets in one. I hung a few shirts on it to get good spacing for the lower rack. She still had a little spacing for shoes and junk along the bottom

Dresses and long things are in another closet

Here you go always best to find a qualified engineer. I for one am impressed that you finally admit your incompetence. :seasix:

Show her a youtube clip of a pretty little young lady building out her own closet.
Maybe that'll motivate her to do it herself.

Easyclosets.com you pick what you want and where, they cut the components and ship them out, you install. We’ve had them for 20 years, quality is top notch. Personally I think the wall hung feature is the best as it means nothing on the floor, so easy to vacuum, etc.

A lot of members here need to come out of the closet.

How can you know that for sure when you're constantly up his ass?

Because you want to make space to get back in, or because you want more to join you outside? :leaving:
